Sesé increases its renewable fuel consumption fivefold and will reach 20 million litres consumed by 2026
- The company increased its renewable fuel consumption fivefold by 2024, reaching 5.6 million litres, equivalent to covering more than 18 million kilometres
- The use of renewable fuels enabled the company to reduce 18% of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2024
- As part of its sustainability strategy, last year Sesé reached the largest renewable fuel supply agreement in Spain with Repsol, which has been consumed a year ahead of schedule
- Sesé chairs the CRECEMOS Association for Circular Economy and Renewable Fuels
Sesé is progressing in its strategy to reduce the environmental impact of its activity and reinforces its commitment to the use of renewable fuels. The company increased its renewable fuel consumption fivefold in 2024 compared to the previous year and expects to reach 20 million litres by 2026.
The volume consumed in 2024 (5.6 million litres) has enabled it to travel more than 18 million kilometres while eliminating up to 90% of CO2 emissions. A distance equivalent to that of crossing Europe more than 4,000 times from Algeciras (Spain) to North Cape (Norway). Last year alone, the company emitted 18% less greenhouse gases thanks to the use of renewable fuel on its international routes, enabling a reduction of up to 90% in emissions per journey.
“Moving towards a more efficient and sustainable supply chain without losing competitiveness is the great challenge facing our industry. In just one year, the use of renewable fuel has not only enabled us to significantly reduce our environmental impact but has become a value-added proposition for customers and companies committed to decarbonising their supply chain.”, assured Héctor Cebrián, manager of Sustainability at Sesé.
As part of its commitment to sustainability and the decarbonisation of its processes, in 2024 Sesé reached the largest renewable fuel supply agreement in Spain with Repsol. A volume of 8 million litres that Sesé has used in half the planned timeframe, and which allows the company to make progress towards its goal of being an emission-neutral company by 2050.
Promoters of change in Spain
Since last year, Sesé has chaired the CRECEMOS Association, whose objective is to promote Spain’s circular economy and the use of renewable fuels as an already available and complementary option to decarbonise all transport segments: land, air and sea.
The grouping consists of 35 leading companies in energy, commodities, industry, transport and retail, representing the entire renewable fuels value chain and promoting technological neutrality. In other words, to consider all available mobility solutions to complement and accompany the decarbonisation of transport.
A sustainable and competitive solution
The renewable fuel used reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to the mineral fuel it is replacing, as it is produced from waste such as used vegetable oils, animal fats and agricultural and forestry residues. A cost-efficient solution that is now readily available for the decarbonisation of all transport sectors. It also has the sustainability certifications required by the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive, and it meets all the technical requirements that guarantee its use in vehicles, without the need for any modifications.
